Painting on Vlisofix

Standard

Our quilting group runs fantastic technique workshops run by our members – a great way to share skills (www.seabreezequters.com)

We had a lot of fun with this simple technique

It’s very easy
1 mix a bit of Fabric Medium into acrylic paint
2 Paint the glue side of the Vlisofix (any similar product would probably work)
3 Let it dry
4 cut your shape out
5 Iron onto your background fabric
6 Peal off backing paper and you are left with the paint

You get very crisp edges and no colour bleed – not very washable and you wouldn’t want to put a hot pot on it (glue might melt!!)

Kim also experimented with a gauze or organza on top – looks great and minimises the glue melting risk!!

Here is my first play attempt

Quilting doodles

Standard

I like to practise quilting designs by doodling – it gets the design into my muscle memory and I have a better chance of recreating it using my sewing machine!!
Here are some of the patterns that I used on the last quilt – I’m not sure how well you can see the quilting as its white on white!!

Quilting done

Standard

Ok I’ve done the quilting. I actually really enjoy the quilting process (although if I want something special Natalie does a great job at the Quilting Bug)

I’m quite please with the result – not too much backwards sewing!!!
I did a different design in each white patch… Feathers, spirals, leaves, wood, paisley, squares, little flowers and of course stipple

Hopefully you can see the quilting in these pics!!

I need a name…

Standard

I need to name this wall hanging – it will be about 1m square and I used one of my fab designers (Kaffe Fascet) in it.
I made it simple and modern as its for a charity auction for ANZ Foundation that do great things.
Any ideas????

Echo flower shawl

Standard

This has been my train project for the last couple of months. I love the time too and from work – it’s my time where I can do something fun and ponder the day.

Although this Echo Flower shawl was a little too complicated for train knitting. It’s a free pattern – http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/echo-flower-shawl

Don’t look at the mistakes – instead look at the lovely yarn that Wendy found for my birthday!!

Here is a pic of it blocked out and completed

Pineapple log cabin – update

Standard

Hm vastly underestimated how long it would take to make these!!!

For the quilt there are 80 six inch blocks. Each block has 37 pieces…. So that’s a total of 2960 or so pieces …

Hm I need to find a way to speed up the process… A bit of a production line is needed.

Here is a pile of 80 blocks ….

Pineapple Log Cabin

Standard

Last Saturday was our quilting group – Seabreeze quilters. The lovely Ursula had some foundation piecing papers. My youngest (7yrs old) chose the Pineapple Log Cabin papers.

I’ve always wanted to do a full log cabin and I love the pineapple variation. I love a new technique and while I’ve done some foundation piecing but not a whole quilt. This quilt is made up of half inch pieces

Here is a pic of the paper and my trial piece.

Round Robyn – stars

Standard

The next border was stars – and this had the most beautiful batiks

I think I underestimated how long it would take to do these 8 blocks
– a night to cut out – why does it always take so much longer to do this than you think!!!

– 2 nights to piece

– 1 night to trim and place in the border

I really loved doing this block though
